Getting up close and personal

Watch macro
I love shooting macro photos. I also love lighting them dramatically, which is easier that you might think. I saw this picture in my mind a week before I actually shot it. My equipment consisted of a Nikon D50 in manual mode, with a reverse-mounted 50mm f/1.8 lens, a camera-mounted SB600 flash, and two colored filters.

I made a simple tent out of the color filters, one red and one purple, leaving a little slot in between them for unfiltered light to enter. I left the SB600 on camera, taping an index card on top to reflect light down to the subject, which was about 4 inches from the lens. Simple.

Hello, I noticed your posts on a recent Fark thread on abandoned places and I was surprised to see pictures of Eastgate mall there. I used to work there if you can believe it. Man, it may have not have been the best mall towards the end of it’s days but it was one of the first in Indianapolis and deserved better.

    Nice pictures by the way.
