Oh, I wish I were…

…well, not really :) But after years of hearing about the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile, like some legendary automotive Loch Ness Monster, it was a bit of a shock to actually see one on my way to work, in the parking lot of a local grocery store. I just *had* to pull in and take a closer look. Apparently there’s some sort of promotion going on where they are getting people to stand in front of the this red and yellow bunyanesque hot dog and sing the jingle on camera, apparently to get a chance to be in a TV commercial or something like that.

I took a pretty good look at it, sort of surprised at how big it is. It even has it’s own website, full of marketing facts and bad puns galore.

There are, according the the website, about 10 of these on tour around the country. My guess is that this one is out of Milwaukee.

It’s nice that the corporate world can still be whimsical in this day and age.

Notice the hot dog-themed dashboard and glove compartment and the catsup and mustard seat uphostery.

I got a partial schedule for the next few days and called my family so that my granddaughter might get a chance to see it, because who knows if they will still be around when she grows up. They’ve been around since about 1938 according to the website, but so many beloved things in our lives have passed out of existence, that I can imagine one sad day you might only see this in a museum, just like Burma-Shave signs.

My 9 and 6 year old sons enjoyed looking at your pics of the wienermobile.

I knew you in high school and I remember meeting your mother; I’m sorry to hear that she passed away.
