This doorway was one of the entrances to a barracks/dormitory I lived in at Andrews Kaserne, in Berlin, Germany in 1977. The building itself had a somewhat sinister history, as it was, until the end of WWII, Hitler’s SS training academy. This entrance was one of the interior doors to a covered vestibule in the center of the building where we waited for our buses to work every day. There are contemporary photographs that show Adolf in front of this building inspecting the troops.
It was always a little creepy living in this building, knowing that such evil had walked its hallways. Many times I had to suppress an involuntary shiver thinking about it.
I took the photograph on Tri-X film, with an exposure time of approximately 1/2 second at f5.6. The negative was damaged in storage, so a little retouching had to be done in Paint Shop Pro to remove scratches and blemishes. I also decided to give it a little yellow tint for atmosphere.
